WEATHER
This page is the portal to my weather tracking history. I've always been interested in the weather to the point that I even took 2 semesters of meteorology while in college. Mostly because as a pilot I was interested to know more about the weather and how it behaves. I also think it is part of my DNA; something passed down from my Dad since he was quite avid at recording weather trends on a daily basis.
I got my first weather station kit from Costco back about December 2006 and have been tracking the weather ever since. That first kit was a LaCrosse WS-2308 and all the instruments had to be hard-wired to the sending unit which transmitted wirelessly to the display/receiver unit. To make things even more difficult, the display/receiver unit had to be hard wired (via serial connection) to the PC if I wanted to get my data published online; which I eventually did.
The software that came with the LaCrosse system left a bit to be desired (and it still does) which led me to seek out some better software alternatives. I discovered the Weather Underground (not the radical left-wing domestic terror group of the late 1960-1970's) which is a website dedicated to amateur weather hobbyists as myself.

A few years later, in October 2011 Costco had another LaCross unit, the WS-2813U-IT. This system was exactly like the one I had (including the sub-par software) except it was wireless. All the devices reported wirelessly to the display/receiver unit and it communicated to the PC via wireless as well.
I have been uploading my data to the Weather Underground from my home in Everett, Washington from 2009 to early 2018 just before we moved. That weather station historical data can be viewed at the Weather Underground identifier KWAEVERE14. The new location for my weather station is in Post Falls, Idaho and can be viewed by clicking on the graph or visiting KIDPOSTF43. |
